DAY VISITORS TO COMPANY OF SIXTY

New Temporary Membership Arrangements

Some of you may have heard the problems we’ve had with the insurance from the NFAS and having to turn away several prospective members at the friendly shoot last November.

To remedy this problem and enable the Club to attract new members the committee have negotiated with the brokers for our club insurance for a special extension to provide civil liability cover for 'Taster Sessions' for beginners on the practice butts, and for competent beginners and visitors from other societies around the course subject to certain strict conditions.

A copy of the new Club Rules relating to Temporary members will be posted in the Hut. Please read them. The main points are:

  1. Temporary Members must be accompanied by an experienced archer who is also a club member AT ALL TIMES. A Member may accompany a maximum of 4 Temporary Members. Any Temporary Member who is shooting a bow must be under ONE-TO-ONE supervision by the experienced member while he is doing so (Only one temporary member at a time on the shooting peg).
  2. If you bring a beginner, he/she must demonstrate to your satisfaction as supervising member basic safe practices and competence with a bow at the practice butts before being permitted to leave the vicinity of the Club Hut in possession of a bow to use the woods. You are responsible for that judgment. Be satisfied that the Temporary Member is ready and safe to tackle the course. Please remember that others will be using the woods! The committee recommends that complete novices should have at least basic familiarity with shooting before using the butts.
  3. A person may attend as a Temporary Member on no more the THREE OCCASIONS. Thereafter that person must join Company of Sixty as a full member and the NFAS before they are permitted to be present on the land again. The requirement to be a member of the NFAS is a condition of our Lease.
  4. The sponsoring Member and each temporary member must, ON EACH OCCASION, SIGN IN and PAY THE FEE.
  5. Each Temporary Member must provide his name, address, date and confirmation that he has been shown and understood the Safety and shooting Rules in the Hut.  This is important. It is a condition of the insurance that this is done and records kept for three years.
The COST IS £5 per Temporary Member per visit.
At the moment there are FORMS IN THE CLUB HUT, and one at the end of this newsletter which you can copy. Please fill in and carry the completed forms with you when accompanying visitors. At the end of your round please post the form to the Membership Secretary with the fee. Cheques are payable to "Company of Sixty".
In due course there will be a printed carbon ‘receipt’ book in the Hut to fill in when you arrive with your visitors, and, hopefully, a method of registration and payment via the website.
  6. The committee is aware that some members have taken friends to the woods in the past, PLEASE NOTE: even if they are already NFAS members your member is NOT INSURED unless he has complied with the above requirements. This means that if there is an accident and they harm themselves, you or a third party (i) he/she will be sued personally and have to meet any damages from personal resources. It happens - you lose the lot:  (ii) you will not have the benefit of Club Insurance cover either and risk personal liability too (iii) if there is a claim against the Club’s own policy there is a good chance that the Club will be unable to obtain any, or affordable Insurance in the future.

This is a marvellous opportunity for the Club. Please be responsible
